Two Detentions in the Aftermath of Heathrow Irritant Spray Incident

The assault resulted in the temporary shutdown of the CTA tunnel and the Terminal 3 parking area.

Two more people are now in custody related to a robbery at Heathrow Airport in which over twenty individuals sustained injuries by what is thought to be an irritant spray, according to police.

A man, 24, was taken into custody in Lambeth on suspicion of theft and assault and a woman, 23 was arrested on suspicion of conspiring to commit a robbery. They both remain in custody, the force said.

These detentions come after a probe into an attack at the multi-storey car park at Heathrow's Terminal 3 on Sunday. Before the attack, two women had stolen from them their luggage after getting out of a parking garage elevator.

A three-year-old girl was among the those hurt during the incident. Five people were taken to the hospital for treatment and have since been discharged.

Police detained a 31-year-old man on suspicion of robbery and assault near the scene. He has since been released under investigation while inquiries continue.

Police were called at about 08:10 GMT following reports of a number of individuals injured by a noxious substance believed to be pepper spray.

The attack - an event that police said was a standalone incident and not being treated as terrorism - caused delays to rail services and the partial closure of the main airport tunnel and the T3 parking facility briefly.
